A Few For the Sake of Many

“For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.”
 ~Genesis 18:32

The other day a District 1 Constituent asked if there were even ten really constitutional members of Congress.

“The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”
— U.S. Constitution, Article VI, clause 3

The oath-taking dates to 1789, the first Congress; however, the current oath was fashioned in the 1860s, by Civil War-era members of Congress, and enacted in 1884.

All members of the US House of Representatives take this oath:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God

Representatives usually take their oath during the first day of a new Congress, when the House organizes itself. After the Speaker is elected, the Member with the longest continuous service (the Dean of the House) administers the oath to the Speaker. The Speaker, in turn, administers the oath to the rest of the Members en masse. The Speaker or Speaker Pro Tempore must swear in members who miss the mass swearing-in ceremony on the first day afterward; on rare occasions, the House has authorized other Members or local judges to swear-in absent Representatives:

So, considering that all members of the Federal government and State governments take this oath of office, are there even ten who in Congress who practice it?

Based on extra-Constitutional laws that created the Federal Reserve Central Bank, removed gold and silver from our legal tender, created the entire Executive Order unbalanced budget special interest sprawling warfare welfare establishment with standing Armies, including Obamacare taxes out of thin cloth, abandoning Jobs, Immigration and Constitutional Government, we might be tempted to say, "No."

Yet we remembered Abraham's plea bargain with God over sparing Sodom, where he interceded for 50, 45, 40, 30, 20 and finally ten righteous people.

Even if there are fewer than ten righteous Constitutional members of Congress, there is another spiritual truth that may save us if only a few righteous Constitutional candidates are elected to Congress in 2014.

A few Constitutional Candidates elected on Tuesday 4 November 2014 can make all the difference for our future.

Respectfully,
