Alan Simpson: Gov't needs long-term vision
Tuesday, 4 Mar 2014 | 11:56 AM ET
CNBC's Rick Santelli and retired Senator Alan Simpson, (R-WY), discuss expectations for President Obama's 2015 Federal Budget and problems facing the middle-class.

Former Sen. Alan Simpson had a dire prediction for the U.S. if budget officials continue to focus on short-term issues when it comes to the national debt.

The country will hit the financial skids in the next 10 to 15 years if officials don't find a way to clamp down costs from our rapidly aging populace, the Republican former senator from Wyoming told CNBC on Tuesday.

"Play small-ball and 10 to 15 years from now your country will be sucking canal water and that's the way it is," Simpson said on "Squawk on the Street."

"It's called the debt. It's $17.3 trillion, heading for 20, and at some point the people who have loaned us 20 trillion bucks will say you've got a dysfunctional government and you've got a Congress that doesn't work."

Simpson, who along with Democrat Erskine Bowles chaired President Barack Obama's bipartisan commission on fiscal responsibility in 2010, said it takes too long to establish lasting reforms.

He pointed to a Social Security system whose future solvency has been neglected for decades.

(Read more: Do this to max out your Social Security benefits)

"The stuff that is going to eat our lunch is 10,000 people a day turning 65," Simpson said.

"Health care is on automatic pilot, forget what you call it.

It's time to deal with the long-term stuff before interest goes from what it is now back to historical heights. Then watch people grab their socks and run for blocks."

Simpson expressed skepticism toward any type of meaningful spending reforms, contending that there's an interest group ready to oppose each potential spending cut or tax hike.

(Read more: US severely exposed if rates rise: Erskine Bowles)

"Whatever you do, whether it's tort reform or real estate, the groups will organize and say, 'These guys are nuts and this is the end of America,'" Simpson said.

"You've got to go into the tax code and start ripping those things out of there.

Each one of these groups has a [special interest] constituency that will run a front-page ad and tear your shorts off."

Simpson's comments come as Obama released his 2015 budget on Tuesday, a spending plan that includes new tax credits and job training programs for workers while tightening tax loopholes for the wealthy.

The White House also wants to increase spending on road improvements and to expand early childhood education, but Republicans want to reduce the government's role in economic initiatives.

"Environmentalists:" Cui bono?

US Constitution, Article I, Section 9, Paragraph 8:

No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

The Utah Coal Lockup:

A trillion dollar Lippo payoff?

By: Sarah Foster

When the President signed the Executive Order designating 1.7 million acres of land in southwest Utah as the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, his action placed the area off limits to mineral extraction and development.

The New York Times reported that the monument encloses the largest coal field in the nation, the Kaiparowitz Plateau, which contains at least 7 billion tons of coal worth over $1 TRILLION.

Kentucky-based company Andalux Resources, which holds leases on 3,400 acres in the area, was planning to open a huge operation (underground, not strip mining) that would have generated 1,000 jobs, $1 million in annual revenue for Kane County, and at least $10 million a year in state and federal taxes, according to the New York Times.

Folks living in the area wore black arm bands the day of the signing - but Clinton didn't see them.

He chose to make his announcement in a neighboring state. WHY?

Why did he do it?

Why lock up $1 trillion worth of coal?

An obvious explanation is he was hoping to secure the environmentalist vote.

Though that was no doubt part of his reasoning, he had surely achieved such an objective earlier this summer when he declared the huge area outside Yellowstone National Park a World Heritage Area.

Let's look further.

In the weeks prior to the past election, revelations surfaced almost daily regarding donations from foreign sources to the Democratic Party and Clinton's past campaigns.

At the center of the controversy was another set of people to whom Clinton owes a few favors: the Lippo Group, a powerful $5 billion Indonesian conglomerate, founded and owned by the Riady family who, it turned out, had raised and funneled millions of dollars into campaign coffers.

Democrats attempted to downplay the allegations of impropriety.

Even if the Clinton campaign and the Party did receive illegal contribution- which is denied -what, they demanded, had Clinton done for Lippo Group, the Riadys, or Indonesia that really affects this country adversely?

Good question.

The Payoff

Clinton's announcement at the Grand Canyon was wrapped in political correctness.

"Mining jobs are good jobs, and mining is important to our national security - but we can't have mines everywhere, and we shouldn't have mines that threaten national treasures," he told his sycophantic audience.

But coal is not only important for our nation's security.

More importantly, at the present time it is the most cost-effective fuel for the electric plants that supply our homes and industries with light, heat and power.

Moreover, the coal at Kaiporowitz Plateau is a kind of coal that is not found "everywhere."

It is very low sulfur, low ash - hence, low polluting - coal, the kind in high demand for power plants, such as one being designed for Ensenada, Mexico.

That megawatt giant, presently on the drawing boards, will supply electricity across northern Baja, an area plagued by brownouts.

Had it not been taken off the world market, the logical source of coal for the Baja plant would be the Kaiparowitz Plateau.

Once mined it could be transported by rail to the ports of Long Beach or Los Angeles, then by barge to Ensenada.

Thanks to Clinton, there will be no exporting of Kaiparowitz coal, which means the facility's procurement people will have to look elsewhere for clean non-polluting fuel.

Only two other sources

Besides the Kaiparowitz Plateau, there are only two other known locations in the world where comparable coal is found in sufficient quantities to make mining it worthwhile.

Colombia in South America is one, but it'll be years before the necessary mining and shipping infrastructure is built.

The other? You got it. Indonesia.

That's right - the coal fields of South Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia.

Big plans are online for its development.

Indonesia has been a source of coal for over a century, but the coal varies sharply in terms of quality.

Recently, however, a coal that is very low in sulfur has been discovered.

A number of coal companies are already there, and it's a good bet Lippo Group money is involved.

A major company is Adaro Indonesia, of which 20 percent is owned by the Spanish government, 50 percent by New Hope Corp., an Australian firm.

Envirocoal

According to the 1994 report Mineral Industry of Indonesia, by the bureau of Mines, U.S. Dept. of Interior, Adaro aims to produce 15 million tones by the year 2000 of what they call Envirocoal - a reference to its quality.

Adaro has for several years anticipated the U.S. as a major market, and has one committed purchaser already: Tampa Electric Co., which signed a long-term contract to purchase 400,000 tones a year from the Indonesian firm.

To handle the shipping of the increased production, new shipping terminals are being constructed.

One huge one is on a neighboring island at a cost of $1 billion.

The P.T. Indonesia bulk Terminal, as the megaport is called, is owned 50 percent by New How, and 50 percent by "Indonesian interests" (the Lippo Group perhaps), according to the Interior Dept. report.

Massive coal deposits, massive shipping facilities - that spells massive investment, massive contracts. This isn't some small-is-beautiful eco-operation.

We're talking real money here, and it's hard to imagine that the "Lippopotamus" is not in on the action.

But even if Lippo's not directly involved, the Indonesian government, with which Lippo has a cozy relationship, certainly is.

So too are the various foreign investors and mining companies to whom the Indonesian government has extended an open invitation.

Winners and Losers

In any game there are winners and losers, and there are Americans in the first category - the investors who put their money in overseas coal mining, producers of natural gas, which the administration supports wholeheartedly.

Plus, there's a deal between a Little Rock firm and Lippo.

According to the ENERGY ECONOMIST for Sept., 1994, Entergy Group of Little Rock, in partnership with the Lippo Group of Hong Kong, signed a memorandum of understanding with the North China Power Corporation for the cooperative management and expansion of the $1 billion 1,200 megawatt coal-fired Daton 2 power plan in Shanxi Province.

Isn't that interesting.

And where do you think the coal will come from?

The Democrats' question: What has Clinton done for Indonesia that harms the United States?

The answer is - with a stroke of his pen he wiped out the only significant competition to Indonesian coal interests in the world market before it even got started, a move that at the same time relegates this country to importer status.

His edict will force us into eventual dependency on foreign producers of coal as we are presently dependent on overseas sources for oil - an unconscionable situation considering that we have abundant deposits of both commodities.

The President has given our children a legacy of continued energy dependence, marked by contrived shortages and crises, the full impact of which will be sharply felt in the years to come.

Fronts for the NeoCon Wise Men?

Hat Tip Soup

Worst Man for the Job
What the Hell is Obama Thinking?

3/01/2014
Nothing is quite as nauseating as watching the hypocrisy and hubris with which President Obama 'warns' the Russian president not to 'interfere' in Ukraine, telling the Russians there would be 'costs to pay.'

It's a surreal move, echoed by his equally creepy and out-of-touch consigliere and chief "diplomat," the morally bankrupt John Kerry.

Astonishing in its audacity and lack of regard for history, truth or facts, this bellicose blather seems aimed only at the idiots over whom he presides, the fools and tools in congress and the press, and his bought-and-paid-for lackeys in European capitals.

Outside the bubble, the sabre rattling is alarming and threatening.

Having stood the issue completely on its head, No Drama Obama ignores how it looks to Russia, China and anyone with a skeptical mind.

It is so jarring that it leaves only two options: is he crazy or does he really want war?

That's why the Russian Senate, offended to the core, asked President Putin to recall the US ambassador over Obama's remarks.

How oblivious or arrogant do you have to be to spend $5 billion dollars destabilizing a country (the actual total is undoubtedly much higher), have your diplomats caught on tape planning a coup, bring a gang of fascist thugs to power on Russia's doorstep--whose first order of business is to outlaw the Russian language, conduct a purge of opposing parties, threaten the Russian-speaking population, threaten to restore Ukraine's nuclear status and provoke and threaten Russia non-stop... and have the *balls* to lecture anyone about interfering?

Oh, add to the pot that you have done the same exact thing in several other countries in the past few years alone. It simply boggles the mind.

Continue poking Putin by suggesting he is being a "bully" when he moves to protect the Russian naval base, protect Russians, and listen to the wishes of the elected government of the region who ask for his support?

New protests erupted across eastern Ukraine rejecting the putschists in Kiev, with Russian flags being raised over government buildings and protesters brandished signs saying "In Russia We Have Brothers. In Europe We Are Slaves" and "Where We Are, It is Also Russia."

This was called an 'invasion' by the people who bought and organized a fascist coup.

Bizarro World.

But why do I focus on Obama? After all, he is little more than an irrelevant placeholder president, a sort of ventriloquist's dummy for the vested interests and forces that put him where he is.

Furthermore, I am not a fan of any Great Man theory of history that implies superhuman powers to people instead of historical forces.

Accordingly, I don't really go in for ad hominem attacks, which seems to be the only stock-in-trade of the western media, whose searing, eternal question seems to be who is the next Hitler.

Maybe it's because I'm in the grip of the question the rest of the world is pondering: is he crazy or does he really want war?

I can't get past wondering whether he is sleepwalking through his presidency, having given over control of his administration to a foreign policy apparatus gone wild--or if he indeed believes the hypocritical warmongering crap that escapes his mouth.

In short, Either he eats babies for breakfast or he has no clue that he is being led by the nose by psychopaths.

It's important because in either case he is perhaps the most dangerous man who has ever held the office.

His chief flaw is *exactly* the puzzle piece that is *least* amenable to being a leader at this historical juncture.

It is a horrific perfect storm, and one that has allowed him to blunder disastrously close to World War III on at least two occasions.

The measure of the man has always told us he was an extremely glib politician.

On watching an early speech of his, my wife was shocked at what all the fuss was about, and actually quoted King Herod out loud to the TV: "Take him away/ He's got *nothing* to say!"

Yeah, she's funny like that.

But still, glibness isn't always hollowness.

We got more of a glimpse when he joked casually about sending drones after any boys who had designs on his precious daughters.

Later, referring to the boys [,girls and parents] he actual did mow down with his drones, he joked to aides--equally casually, we assume--that he never thought he 'would wind up being so good at killing people.'

But the clincher for me is one memory still haunts me from campaign 2008: a late rally in some Florida dump where Clinton explained (actually apologizing for going off script) that Obama was The Guy because he had said to the council of elders behind closed doors--you tell me what's the right thing to do and I'll sell it.

At the time I did a double take, and it raised the hairs on the back of my neck.

This is not a leader, a president, or even a thinker at all, but a glorified and willing Pitchman-in-Chief, a sort of real life Clayton Bigsby [Comedian Dave Chapelle Black White supremacist] selling an ideology he is too blind to see.

It was a bit of the mask slipping... and it was incredibly ominous.

I felt it and said so to my wife at the time, but she had checked out long before.

Never thought he was anything more than a charlatan and a whore - from the first time she heard him, actually.

Damn, I envy her clarity sometimes.

It's like they made a clone of Truman in a test tube, only this time not a hick... scary.

Jimmy Burns [US Rep, SCOTUS, Secretary of State, SC Governor...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_F._Byrnes] led Truman around on a leash, and this misplaced trust in Wise Men led to war crimes such as Hiroshima and Nagasaki, among others.

In another famous example, Kennedy stupidly let the Bay of Pigs invasion proceed, as he was advised by 'wiser men' who told him it was already in the pipeline.

However, he wisely vetoed air support, realizing that is was a stupid plan laid out by zealots.

Obama has neither the balls nor the intelligence to pull off any such thing.

There was a flicker over Syria in August, but it appears to have been a mirage brought on by Russian missiles and wiser generals.

He has the fatal flaw which makes all smart men stupid: heeding the counsel of fools and those with their own secret agenda masquerading as Wise Men.

[PHOTO: pro-Russian activists in Kharkov, Ukraine]

The zealots who have his ear have been in power for a long time, and they are the kind of fanatics who avoid scrutiny in public and accountability even to themselves, so stupid or proud that they still see chasing the Russians out of Afghanistan as their greatest triumph, and take no responsibility for having created, from the ground up, the very concept of militarized global jihad.

Even cutting him the most possible slack, he listens to them--and that makes him delusional, a hollow man issuing idle threats.

As logic dictates, it is the US who should be worrying about costs, starting with billions to set the coup in motion.

That will turn out to have been a pittance.

He is now a dangerous man being counseled by dangerous men.

Just today, listening to his smug, arrogant self humiliate a heckler, someone trying to shout a tiny bit of truth through the noise, is truly chilling.

The trouble is, Obama may not be lying.

He really doesn't know what the guy is talking about, and doesn't know that this is the plan--at what may be the most dangerous moment in history--and will go along with whichever three loudest advisers tell him is the right thing.

The saddest and scariest part is that he doesn't even seem to know it--a true button pusher.

Soulless.

But this is a measure of the man.

At a friendly, fundraising event, with full control and no opposition, he could have said anything he wanted, could have made some sensible retort.

Instead he chose to be mean and demeaning, calling the guy a drunk and implying that he is crazy.

So now I have to add Bad Man to my list.

No lie lives forever, and some day his uppance will come, as Stewie Griffin says.

He richly deserves the place he has earned in history, and I have lost interest in splitting hairs:.enabler, dupe or antichrist--take your pick.

America’s Five Criminals: In the U.S. the Gestapo Has Replaced the Rule of Law

Global Research, February 17, 2014

RT is the best English language news source available to Americans. On January 29, RT published a photo of 5 presidential appointees lying through their teeth to Congress.

All five of these Gestapo wannabes are in violation of their oath of office to protect the Constitution of the United States.

They have relentlessly violated the Constitution, which makes these five, who are in charge of US intelligence and black operations, traitors to the United States.

Yet, they have not been arrested and put on trial.

Congress is content to sit there and listen to their ongoing lies time after time after time, despite the fact that these 5 have committed more and worse crimes against our country than the “terrorists” that serve as an excuse for the crimes committed by the intelligence agencies.

(L-R) National Counterterrorism Center Director Matthew Olsen, FBI Director James Comey, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, CIA Director John Brennan, Defense Intelligence Agency Director Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn testify during a hearing before Senate (Select) Intelligence Committee January 29, 2014 (Alex Wong / Getty Images / AFP)
(L-R) National Counterterrorism Center Director Matthew Olsen, FBI Director James Comey, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, CIA Director John Brennan, Defense Intelligence Agency Director Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn testify during a hearing before Senate (Select) Intelligence Committee January 29, 2014 (Alex Wong / Getty Images / AFP)

Remember, dear readers, it is a crime for you to lie to any federal agent even if you are not under oath or before Congress. How much more evidence do you need that you are not a citizen of the United States but a mere serf of the federal government?  Will you ever wake up?

James Clapper, who has the grand title of Director Of National Intelligence, is an admitted liar to the US Congress but nevertheless remains in office.  That Clapper is still in office is a good measure of the decline both in the integrity of the US government and in the integrity that Congress, media, and the public expect from the government.

President Nixon was driven from office for a very small thing:  Nixon lied about when he learned about a burglary with which he had nothing to do.  Clapper brazenly lied to the US Congress, denying that he was spying on members of the US Congress.

Clapper is not only in violation of the Constitution, he has committed a felony, especially under the stretched interpretation of laws that is the norm for Department of Justice prosecutions.

Huge numbers of Americans are in prison for offenses that are molehills compared to Clapper’s, or for that matter, any of the other five sitting there lying to Congress.

The Five Criminals told Congress that Edward Snowden, who is under the protection of the Russian government, must be made to give back the evidence of NSA spying on the entire world before some US troops or diplomats are killed by terrorists in some future war started by Washington, which routinely dismisses the victims of its war crimes as “collateral damage.”

None of the Five Criminals were able to specify how Congress could make the Russian government hand over Snowden.

Rabid Republican warmongers have falsely and propagandistically accused Snowden of being “a Russian spy.”

What utter dishonesty! The only reason Snowden is in Russia is that the US, in violation of international law, refuses to allow an airplane to fly from Russia with Snowden to any of the South American countries that have granted Snowden asylum.  The fact that Snowden is in Russia is entirely the fault of Washington.

As I have written and said on many occasions, facts mean nothing to Washington, to the presstitute media, and to most of the American population, who prefer comforting lies to reality.

No one in the American media or most Internet sites will dare tell you that the reason the Five Criminals are again lying to Congress is to deflect Congress and an insouciant public and media from the fact that they have violated the law and their oath of office, and that the only purpose of invoking “national security” is to protect the criminal actions of the security agencies from being discovered.

“National Security” is the blanket under which the crimes of government are hidden.

All that “national security” means is that “we are not going to let anyone find out that we are nothing but a gang of criminal thugs, and we are going to use the cover of national security to demonize Snowden who told on us.”

The so-called “security agencies” and their media whores have created a wartime atmosphere of fear as if the “world’s only superpower” was about to be destroyed by a handful of lightly armed fighters thousands of miles away who resist Washington’s invasions of their countries in corners of the earth that most Americans cannot find on a map.

What kind of superpower is so terrified by peoples that the superpower choses to invade and murder?

If the wronged people are so threatening, the superpower should stay at home and leave them alone.

Listen to this bullshit from Clapper:  As a consequence of Snowden, “the nation is less safe and its people less secure.”

The truth is the opposite of what Clapper states.

Snowden alerted us to the fact that Clapper was shredding the US Constitution that is our greatest protection.

Clapper, who should be in the dock for treason, has stolen our rights and our shield against harm and abuse from arbitrary government power.

Clapper is an enemy of every American.

Listen to this b**t  from Lt. Gen, Michael Flynn, director of the US Defense Intelligence Agency, who stupidly asserts that Snowden’s revelations of illegal mass spying on the US citizens and the world caused “grave damage” to “national security.”

What the general means is that it caused damage to his reputation and brought him some cause for anxiety by revealing that he was engaged in criminal activity.

But the general knew how to invoke the sympathy and support of the right-wing superpatriots.

He declared that the greatest cost of Snowden’s revelations is “the cost of human lives on tomorrow’s battlefield or in some place where we will put our military forces when we ask them to go into harm’s way.”

He is, of course, talking about the next time that Washington criminally attacks another country in total violation of the Nuremberg standard.

Senator Barbara Mikulski listening to this BS said that what was needed was a Supreme Court ruling “to determine the constitutionality of these programs.”  Was this sincere or a cop-out? Why is Mikulski passing the buck? The current Republican Supreme Court is corrupt and will not defend the Constitution.

One of the leading Republican lights, as dimly lit as he is, Justice Antonin Scalia, truthfully said that concentration camps are a likely future reality for Americans and that the Supreme Court would not do anything about the tyranny should the executive branch think it necessary.

Senator Ron Wyden told the Five Criminals, “I don’t think this culture of misinformation [that the Five Criminals represent] is going to be easily fixed.”

Nothing will be fixed until the Five Criminals are arrested and put on trial for treason and until Congress defunds the illegal wars and states firmly, backed up with the threat of impeachment, that there is no such thing as “the unitary executive” who is above law, Constitution, Congress, and the federal courts.

The Supreme Court will not protect us.

Congress must put the executive branch on notice that it is not above the law and the Constitution.

Americans have lost the rule of law.

Unless Congress quickly restores it, the country is lost.
